  1. 9-12 Hunt

    Thermacell saved me this morning.
  2. What do y’all think about

Not knocking crossbows either, but I barely consider it Archery. It's great that those that aren't physically able can hunt with bows can get in the woods as well as youngsters. But it's basically a short range rifle with strings, just more difficult to chamber a round. I am sure everyone here...
  3. Food Plots. When do you plant yours?

    Late September at earliest.
  4. snake

Don't think so, I think this is Amethystine Python. Australian nonetheless, so dangerous indeed.
  5. Is anyone bow hunting?

From opening day to closing....when it's not raining.
  6. Deer with Cronic Wasting Disease found in TN

It was actually found earlier in the season in Mississippi. We will probably hear more in the next year or 2 about submitting harvested deer for testing in GA (not sure how they will do it, but on a sampling basis). I hate to say this, but it's probably already here on a very minute scale, and...
  7. Is this a cull?

I think Tecomate Ranch hunting shows and similar kicked up the idea of "culling" to a rediculous degree. There were 12 points in upper 150 class that they would let walk because they were so inferior to what they were after. Hunters saw this and said "I'm going to do the same thing at my...
  8. Is this a cull?

I think what he meant by the comment is that biologists have shot the idea down of genetic management by "culling". MSU deer lab among others have studied this and found that it does not work.
  9. snakes

    Grey rat snake
  10. Persimmons for deer

For that matter, don't eat the ripe ones either, even after the frost. It will be your first and your last time. They need to be cooked and sugared up to be palatable. I use to let my unknowing buddies try a bite without warning, but I'm getting kinder in my old age.
  11. I'm about to cave, I need help!

I've practiced/sighted in out to 60 yards with compound, which makes 30 easy peasy. I still would never shoot over 40. So many variables beyond that for whitetails make for more of a marginal/nonethical shot. Everything I've shot has ended up under 25 yards, mostly a lot less. I would think 50...
  12. Rattling

Thanks for posting, subscribing to the podcast.
  13. How do you scout?

Find the spot on the property with the most ticks, chiggers, mosquitos, hardest to get to, thickest cover, hardest to drag deer out, most briers, no good trees to put a stand in and you'll find deer there. Or right near the gate if you just want to get a doe (never fails).
  14. Questions to ask before joining a club... add yours

So you're saying that the name of our club "East Brown and Down Hunting Club" is going to scare someone away?
  15. Ponderings from the deer stand

How did the Huddle House in Eatonton run out of coffee that one time? There's a walmart less than a 1/4 mile away Dang, I'm getting hungry They better not be out of coffee again How does one not see that they are running low on coffee?
  16. Ponderings from the deer stand

Bacon or sausage? What a stupid question, bacon of course! Crispy or still a little tender?.... Thick cut bacon so blows away regular bacon But regular bacon is still the bomb I hate it when bacon is so crispy it falls apart when you try to pick it up It's still good though
  17. Ponderings from the deer stand

I really love hash browns Especially when they are crispy on the outside and moist inside Double hash browns would be even better Do I like them better scattered?... Yes, I think I do But are they no longer crispy only on the outside, hmmmm Ill stick with regular hash browns,... But...
  18. Questions to ask before joining a club... add yours

    1. How many walkers have you killed? 2. How many people have you killed? 3. Why? Wait,....what kind of club?
  19. Question for the Experts

Bigger bucks don't show up on our 220 acres till November. There's no use trying to pattern or make rhyme or reason about where to set up till then. On 30 acres, I would not expect any different. If you have that many does, you are in good shape, although I would plan on harvesting a couple...
  20. What Broadhead do you use?

Make sure you use mx3s if you're getting 3 blade muzzys. The originals were hard to tune to field points. Lots of folks have gone to expandibles, so you could get a broad range of answers.
