Roll crimp is way to go. You can make your over the shot wad out of anything creative. If you flog the interwebs, you can find people making shot wraps out of note book page holders, mylar house wrap, other exotic materials.
With the low volume of shells, hand loading each one is not an...
I never been a fan of loading mixed brass for the very reasons you describe.
if you want to check for squib loads, weigh them, You obviously have a scale. That's what the factories do.
I got a 550 right after they came out, used it for years. Tried a 650, just couldn't justify the expense, and any speed advantage was lost the first time you had to clear some kind of jam, and loading hundreds of cast bullets, you are going to have regular jams.
I really hate to say it, but you can save considerable money by looking on Fleabay for these items. They never (hardly) wear out, and any discount from retail is real money. On presses, on the name brands, parts are available, and Dillon for one has a lifetime warranty to any owned.
I agree. I had a 550 before the 650 even came out. Tried the 650, and stayed with my 550 for the same reason. Virtually no difference in output, and if you crush a primer, or ding the mouth of a case, clearing the 650 wipes out any speed advantage.
I was shooting 400-500 .38 Special WC a...
My car is in the parking lot, and I'm not "in possession" of it, but I'm still pretty sure it's still mine.
I guess I shouldn't use the gun rack either, less the range lay claim to it.
Tom Lowe for sure didn't press the issue.
I have several years experience in this area.
There is a market for ONCE FIRED AA and STS, some market for Gold Medals, a little market for paper hulls. Problem with range pickups is the ONCE FIRED part.
Most sporting ranges don't bother with the hulls because the labor to collect them and...
you can hardened and patch lead to centerfire velocities
It's odd that a piece of common typing paper will let you jack a lead bullet into the high 2000 fps range
You don't need "low pressure" loads.
.32 S&W is a black powder load, and any published load will be within safe parameters, I have a good selection of late 19th century/early 20th century break actions, and shoot mostly factory loads now. I have a couple of S&W I frames that are tiny.
When I...
BTW, I don't understand this UPS to USPS handoff. Just for package, tracked to local UPS depot, next day USPS delivers. Added a day to delivery, and the UPS truck was around the neighborhood. Big ass box too, know my USPS guy appreciated getting it.
I shoot mostly 4" and I favor 180 gr, bullets.
For the shorter barrels, I like 125 gr. bullets for a number of reasons, not the least is reduced recoil. The benefit of shooting 125 gr, from short barrels is discussed several places on the interweb, and a couple of manufacturers have factory...
I was chronographing .44 mag loads from a Dan Wesson .445 SuperMag, so overloads were not a concern and i had plenty of room to load stretch the 210-225 gr, loads for more case space. About 1280 was the most I could do without bad things happening to the cases.
i could hit 1400 + in with...
What factory ammo claims 1500 fps for a 200 gr. bullet?
Underwood and Buffalo show velocities in the neighborhood of 1200 FPS for 200-225 grain bullets. That is consistent with my experience loading "Norma" loads.
