If it helps, I have a 2013 3.5 eco boost with almost 170k. I had a throttle body go out at about 100k and it’s recently developed a very small oil leak somewhere on top of the motor (haven’t been able to find the exact location) but it’s only leaking enough to sometimes drip a drop onto the...
I commend you. I wish it was easier to find someone trustworthy. I picked the truck up, ran to the auto parts store, reached under the truck and pulled the valve out and proceeded to have them order it.
Thanks for all the help everyone. I’ll update tomorrow to confirm whether or not the...
That was my thinking. In retrospect, I should have just replaced both valves, would have been cheaper. The only issue is that I was afraid it could be faulty wiring, in which case their $200 fee would have been the cheapest route. I’m gonna be pretty pissed if they were wrong, lol.
In their defense, the initial diag fee of $85 (which I assume is them pulling the codes) is included in the $200 smoke test, so in theory, the smoke test was $115 and them plugging the scanner in was $85. I’m fine with that. I’m not fine with a cost of $685 to replace the valve plus the diag...
Yeah, I just got off the phone with a buddy who’s the GM for a shop (I haven’t been able to reach him until now) and he said run, don’t walk away from them. I’m heading there shortly to take my $200 lumps, go to the auto parts store for the part and replace it when I get home. I’ll let y’all...
Oh, I have a scan tool, I pulled the code and told them what it was. When they called me back to say they needed to do a smoke test, I told them a leak in the system throws a different code than what I had, they weren’t prepared with a response except that they “have” to do a smoke test to...
I’m sure it’s just a way to make more money. It’s my first (and last) time using that shop but they’re really close to me and had good reviews so I figured I’d give them a shot.
They’re $200 smoke test includes the initial diag fee of $85. I’m just wondering what I’m missing when it comes to replacing the valve. It’s right on the canister which is easily accessed. I pulled the purge valve last week to inspect it and it probably took me 33 seconds, and part of that...
They have determined that the vent valve is faulty and needs to be replaced. I’ve seen the videos with the bad wiring. I lack the equipment to perform those valve tests so I figured I would let the shop diagnose (and fix if reasonable) then I would replace the part. Had I known it was gonna...
Thanks for that, I’m finding the same stuff as well. I was hoping someone here has actually performed this repair. I can’t wrap my head around paying almost $1000 bucks to replace a valve on. A canister that’s easily accessed...I must be missing something.
Anyone have a ballpark figure on what it should cost to have a shop replace an evap vent valve in a 2013 F150? The truck was throwing a code of p0446 and I really don’t have the means to properly test the system nor did I want to just start replacing stuff.
I took it in to get a diag figuring...
I’ve got a 3.5 with 140k on it and have never noticed it eating oil. Only issues I’ve had were throttle body and o2 sensors. It’s done it’s fair share of towing heavy stuff as well.
