I only run steel cased in my ARs, I can't even reload it for as cheap as I see steel cased, never had any issues personally with it. Same with my Mauser, all I run is steel cased. Haven't tried steel cased in my pistols, probably never will, but I have ran aluminum cased in my 1911s and it runs...

Actually, being completely compressed is bad for springs. But with that said, a magazine spring is always somewhat compressed, and the only thing that does not put wear on springs is being in free state, which magazines never are.
