45 Raptor is rimless, same as a 308 cartridge base. Having the cylinder cut for the rimless 45 Raptor would save me from loading or carrying both 460S&W and 45 Raptor.
Finally got to the range with my Aero built 45 Raptor. This rifle is accurate, smooth running and less recoil than a 308.
16" Liberty barrel on an Aero upper/lower and a bunch of other goodies. Finished in a Kryptec Ceracote.
Hornady FTX 200gr, Starline brass, Mag Rifle primers and 50gr...
Used to hear someone yell "Test Fire" on the ranges in the Army all the time. Too bad it was after the weapon fired.
Disqualified a tank crew for ND of a 120mm sabot round into a defensive berm. They were not even clear to go "hot" as another tank was still down range.
Watched a 249 saw gunner...
You do have range limitations with the 6.8, I keep it to less than 300yds. However the bullet selection is far greater since the .270 is so popular. I have a Stag 6.8 that shoots extremely accurate and everything I've shot with it is either DRT or 50yds max with a great blood trail.
Been there, done that. Wasn't impressed with bullet selection for hunting purposes. The 6.5 really shines with bullets in the 140gr range. 6.5G limits you to basically 123 and 129 due to magazine length and bullet seating depth.
I've shot deer and hog with 6.5G from 10yds on hogs, 200yds on...
I will be updating with a range report as soon as the Richmond Hill WMA range opens back up.
I've got some HXP ammo and a bunch of 175 reloads(M1 pressure).
So far this rifle is shooting a 3.5 moa...I'm hoping for much better results now.
I did this for 2 reasons:
1. If I dont like it, I can take the chassis off and put the sexy wood back on. No mods to the original rifle.
2. This chassis is supposed to address known accuracy issues with the M1 garand stock design.
A PRS match, for the hell of it, may be in it's near future.
This Corona boredom got the better of me. I traded a back of the safe AR for a Sage M1 garand chassis. Took an M1 with Criterion barrel and installed the chassis, PITA!!!! Sig Romeo 7, bipod, and pistol grip. Now I just need somewhere to shoot it.
1.25MOA with handloads, 5 shot group...
I picked one up after seeing Howie's listed on here. It has shot everything I've put in it and have about 1000rds down range. No problems with loading mags and it runs good suppressed. I will be upgrading to the Farrowtec and tailhook.
Only issue...rarely it fails to lock into battery on 1st...
