    Almost any digital safe can have the digital lock replaced with a mechanical pretty cheaply, so I wouldn't let digital hold you back.

    Actually, no. He is a member and does build safes. Personally - If I am building a room. I am not going to use a safe door that I cut off a gun safe. I'd rather have something that my family could use as a safe room in the event of an emergency. Just my $.002 worth.
