    Just a guess but possibly the repeated bullet hits have changed the internal metal structure causing the tone to change.

    I have an early production Springfield M1 Garand made in 1938. Has a 4 digit serial number in the 2000’s. It looks good and is tight with good rifling. It is a conversion rifle from gas trap to gas port, so all parts are not original. I am not a Garand expert So I do not have any idea of value...
