  1. Need Info on Thompson Center Encore Rifle

I have had mine for over 15 years and love it. They are quality rifles. S&W has owned them for a long time, but to my knowledge never changed the receivers markings. The main difference between the one I own, and likely the one you speak of, and the pro hunter version is some fancy engraving...
  2. Custom Bolt Gun Builders/Action Recommendation

I recently built a custom gun on a tikka action. I have had two guns now built by Whidden Gunworks in Nashville, GA. I bought used tikkas, new stocks and barrels, and had Chip down at Whidden put them together. Cant say enough good things about Whidden, or Tikka, or IBI barrels. Look for my...
  3. New Rifle Build

So I built a new rifle this year. I wanted to share because I am very pleased with the results. I started by finding a tikka CTR here on the trader. I wanted to use the CTR magazine and trigger guard. For those that don’t know about Tikka, their actions are dang near what you get when you...
  4. Barrel swap

I have heard of LRI. I may have to go that route. Was hoping for some place local, but may have to go that route.
  5. Barrel swap

Does anyone have a gunsmith around the Newnan area that can swap a barrel on a Tikka? I have purchased a new carbon fiber barrel for my tikka just to discover no one wants to touch it because it’s a tikka or because it’s a carbon fiber. Suggestions?
  6. Hunting with Silencers/suppressors

I have seen a friends gun change in point of impact by 2 feet at 50 yards. But, his was an AAC steel can, one of their first available, attached to a pencil barrel Remington model 7.....he still uses that same gun but recently bought one of the newer generation light weight cans and is now only...
  7. 300WM options

I own a Christensen arms ridgeline and have ran multiple boxes of ammo through it of varying types. Mine out of the box shot 1moa or slightly better. I followed their break in protocol for their barrels and now am getting about 1/2 MOA when i do my part shooting Federal GMM or Hornady...
  8. New rifle build

    It did it’s job....
  9. New rifle build

Took it hunting today. Nothing stepped out that was suitable, but it was a gorgeous evening and at one point I had 21 deer in view....
  10. New rifle build

I was torn what to chamber it. I have always had good luck with a 7-08, recoil is mild, and deer hate them so...my only gripe is ammo is scarce. Obviously I can roll my own and even took the opportunity to teach my 14 year old the basics of reloading yesterday.
  11. New rifle build

I will check it out. I’m at near max load on the varget, and I know stuff like h414 should push this pill about 100 FPS faster. It being a 19 inch tube, it’s already sacrificing some speed, would like to optimize it and make the most of it without changing to a lower grain weight projectile...
  12. New rifle build

What’s your thoughts of your defiance actions? I considered buying a custom action, but I had this Tikka and the barrel was thinner than I wanted to thread for a suppressor to hang off of so it became a cadaver to build this. I’m very pleased with the results. Want to try a few more powders...
  13. New rifle build

Recently a friend gave me a barrel blank so I did what any grateful friend would do....I used it to transform an old Tikka into a new one.....IBI barrel, 19 inch 1:8.5 twist 7mm08....fluted. Appears to be a shooter. It came as a blank so I took the blank and my Tikka to John Whidden of Whidden...
  14. Rebarreling a tikka

I have a Tikka T3 in 7mm-08 already in a quality stock that I want to suppress. The barrel is too thin from what I can tell so I want to rebarrel it with a quality barrel about 18 inches long and fluted that is threaded for a suppressor. Does anyone have a gunsmith in GA you would trust to do...
  15. Vortex customer service blows

Holy cow dude. I have had one issue with vortex and they did not question a thing. Just instant shipping label. When it was said and done they determine I had over torqued the rings which made the power ring overly hard. Shipped me the scope back, a free set of rings and a t shirt at no cost...
  16. Vortex strike eagle failed me in competition....

1st. Vortex has a great warranty, they will fix it. 2nd, its one of their lower end scopes....it has a lot of options for the money but still. I have a trijicon accupower I love and I also have two night forces. Keep in mind too that Vortex has the higher end line like the PST and the Razor...
  17. For you current or former LE ODTers: pistol qualification course

Most law enforcement officers only go to the range once or twice a year. They shoot a lot in the academy and get good enough to pass minimum standards and for some reason forget that it is a perishable skill........but yet still try to show off when the chance arises at the local range. They...
  18. For you current or former LE ODTers: pistol qualification course

The biggest issue I see on the range movement. Those that forsake their training move slow. They come out of the holster slow, they transition slow, and they reload slow. They then try to make it up by slapping the trigger. Learn your equipment and move like your life depended on it.
