Our son spent the first week in NICU as well. They billed our insurance company 60k but the nurse argued with us about taking home a $4 cotton blanket with my sons scent for our dogs to smell! Thank God my wife has great insurance so the total out of pocket was $1500 ($2000 had we taken the blanket)

I'm sure you two spoiled your dog and gave him the best years he could ask for. I'm sure he misses you as much as you two miss him and he'll be waiting for you on the other side! Unfortunately, It's what we sign up for as pet owners as their lives are too short imo
