No. The striker is shaped differently. Gen 5 will have a slight triangular shape, where the 1-4 will be more round. That's in addition to the safety plunger differences. The back plates are also different.
Bob Dunlap, the AGI guy, was a walking encyclopedia of gunsmithing knowledge. It bothered the piss out of me to see him banging on the demo guns with whatever was lying closest to him though.
Another trick....throw it in the freezer for an hour, then apply heat to the gas block. Try to direct the heat away from the pins. Butane torch is good for applying the heat.
Haven't dealt with that specific one, but in generalities:
Kroil
Heat on the gas block
Starter punch or a domed punch on small side
Very solid, preferably steel work base
If you have to hit it harder, you need a bigger hammer. I've used a 4 lb to get some of them started.
These are sometimes...
This is one of the reasons we ran 27 rnds, not 30, in Pmags. The rounds in the loaded magazine are having to be pushed downward into the mag when they are pressed up against the bottom of a closed bolt. Put less rounds in them, or go to the gym.
The general rule of thumb is that if the oil soaked wood didn't actually catch fire, and the springs did not get hot enough to take a set (lose their springiness), then it didn't get hot enough to crystalize the steel. Neither of these signs were present in these guns, which were in a basement...
Had this one come in that was in a house fire. It didn't get hot enough to affect the hardness, but the smoke/water/heat combo did a number on the metal. Refinished in Cerakote Midnight blue. Replaced most of the springs, since they were beyond salvage, and heat really does a number on...
Nice list. I use pretty much what is listed, with minor exceptions. One of them is the use of this bench block, which I find much handier for multiple purposes when dealing with the AR platform.https://www.midwayusa.com/product/1016339811
8-32 should be able to be re-drilled and tapped to 8-40 (I think). That would keep you from having to drill a huge hole in the mount. I'd check the drill chart to verify though.
Nylon or brass punch if you are gentle with it. Too hard/too tight dovetail fit and you can bust the tritium globe. If you can't get the pusher, use a brass shim on both sides, and a C clamp with the round ends of the clamp ground to flats.
1300's aren't that difficult to deal with. The older ones have a screw in the bottom of the bolt that has to be removed in order for the bolt to slide out the front of the receiver. Later ones did away with that. Now that I think about it, it might have been the 1200s that have the screw...
The 590 has the removable end cap to take the spring and follower out. The 500 has to have the mag tube unscrewed, and they are a beeyatch. Ive used a set of barrel clamps to keep from crushing the tube in a vise, heat on the receiver, and turn the receiver off with a BF wrench. Mask the...
Not sure if they offer a triangular one, but I've done a side folder KAK Shockwave on a 92. It requires drilling and tapping the rear trunion, and that is some very hard steel. I'd suggest spot annealing if you attempt it. The side folding adapter is from Storm Werkz.
