If your not confident using a drill bit try using an endmill on rounded surfaces. Small endmills are somewhat brittle so you have to go slow. With practice and patients a standard drill bit will work fine though, well at least on ak components, lol.
Converted the front end, threaded the barrel. Added the Chinese handguards and pg. I can’t remember the origin of the stock. Any ak stock can be modded to fit a Mak. It does require fitting, filling the screw holes and redrilling. Not taking away from Ironwood but it can be done without the...
Another great source for learning to build ak’s is Mel64D’s channel on YouTube. Also another good source is bfgmovies, he’s an Odt’er and local guy. Too lazy to post links’s. I pretty much learned to build from those 2 channels and a lot of trial and error, lol.
I will add that having built many ak’s and rpk’s nothing beats a good set of calipers or preferably a micrometer. Measure your journals and id’s of components to verify proper press fit tolerances and fitting.
Go with an original Bulgarian retainer. It’s not difficult to remove the barrel components if you have the proper tools, press, press plates etc. I’m not sure if a Romanian 74 retainer will work due to the barrel journals on Romy 5.45 barrels. Soviet Stocks may have the bulgy retainer. Feel free...
All of there are fairly easy tasks, with the exception of the welding. There are quite a few YouTube videos detailing the processes for what you want done. Carolina shooters supply has the bullet guide kits and CNC Warrior has a nice threading kit. It’s really not difficult but it was...
For anyone wanting to build their own guns acquiring all the tools/jigs etc is pretty expensive if you don’t already have some sort of base to start with. I would also add that if you don’t plan on building several than the expenditure really doesn’t make sense. I have a couple thousand easy in...
Try Meridian Ordnance in Kentucky. From what I hear he’s booked for months but does quality work. It’s worth the wait. Like @Wolf six said probably 75% of the guns cost. I’m with you though, it’s great having something original. Good luck in your quest, it’ll make an awesome piece!
I’ve used them on a shotgun. They seem to hold up well, I’ve used the shotgun in all sorts of weather. Mostly duck hunting in beaver swamps. Follow the directions closely when you put them on. Been a few years since I put them on and still holding up well.
Doing fairly well, recovering from back surgery. Best thing for trigger slap is just to replace it, lol. Some decent triggers out there for around $30 or go the distance and get an Alg. The enhanced curved Alg is pretty awesome.
Try soaking just the topcover or other small part in acetone as fatalbert suggested. I would just do a small part to see what results you get before trying to strip the whole thing. If that works then do the rest. Follow Fats instructions above for prep. I've painted several rifles using that...
