22 Mag or 17 HMR

So, if you had your choice of the 2, which would you want? Why?

.17hmr, ammo is much more readily available and typically cheaper. It depends on what your using it for partially but I prefer the specs on the .17hmr for coyote. The drop for a .22mag is nearly double of a .17hmr at 200yds

I've got 4 .22 mags, but never owned a .17. Shot a few but wasn't real impressed. The .22 mag is decent (not good, just decent) in brush, the .17 wasn't.

And I can find ammo at Wal-Mart every time I go. That hasn't been an issue yet.

Thanks for your input. I have both but can't see keeping both. The 22mag is a sweet gun but the 17 is straight bad butt! My thinking behind the 17 is being able to shoot accurately beyond 150yrds.

My only beef with the 17 is I have to buy new cleaning stuff and that tiny bore gets dirty quick. Otherwise it is the supirior choice. If you reload look at the 17 hornet. I kinda want one bad

If I decide to go with a center fire, it will be the 17 Remington or 204 ruger.

For the 17 or 22?

For the mag. I don't often check .17 as I don't have one. Also, my varmit shots are usually limited to 100yds and closer due to the amount of heavy brush. If I'm going for distance I'll switch to my 7.5x55 Swiss.
