I have had some questions about switching calibers from 5.56 to 300 blk out. A buddy of mine was going to make the switch, then I told him to grab mine and check it out.

He looked at it and when he picked it up he said nice AR in 5.56. I said look closer, it is chambered in 300 right now. He was impressed. We took it to my range and hei shot about 20 rds. I went inside and grabbed my 5.56 barrel, gas tube and block, (already attached as one piece) and took the 300 setup off the upper and swithched it with the 5.56 setup. He shot 20 rds of 5.56. He turned and looked at me with a smile. I then took my 5.56 bolt out and put the .22 bolt in and gave him the .22 mag. He loved it.

I said it would be worth going to invest in a barrel just for 22 so you're not worried about the one you're shooting 5.56 through. He said he wouldnt have the need to shoot .22 just .223, 5.56 and 300blkout...

He called me ladt night and said he bought a 300 blk out barrel, gas tube and gas block and thanked me for telling him about this he didn't go to spend the whole bunch of money ...

How do you switch the barrels without removing the gas tube? Doesn't it get in the way of the barrel nut turning?

I've seen guys reload ammo at the range, can't say I've ever seen a guy rebarrel an upper. You carry a vise to the range?

Loosen the gas block and slide it forward

LMT MRP is the only upper I can think of where this is possible. I'd like to know more about the upper in question as well.

you have to take the barrel nut off , pull the barrel loosen the gas block and pull everything out at 1 . reinsert the barrel and the gas block and tighten everything else back down ...
