Called Ruger this morning, They say my Ruger American Pistol can handle 45 Super in stock form. I'm looking for some advice about which loads will perform best on Georgia deer and hogs. Highly considering a 230 gr XTP at 1050-1100 fps. Thanks!

Check out Buffalo Bore. They list a 255g hardcast semi wadcutter at 1075fps.

How are you liking the American btw? I held a 9mm at Academy the other day and it felt better than a G17 but still a little big. Not sure which backstrap it had on though.

Thank you all, I have been very impressed with the pistol. It's a shame you didn't get to try the trigger at academy, it's superb for a plastic gun. Mine is more accurate and fits my hand much better than the Glock 21 I sold. It blew me away that Ruger customer service recommended 45 supers be used.

I have seen reviews of Hornady factory 45 +p 230 gr when fired into ballistic gel, 18" penetration and expansion to .70. Bullets react differently when fired into flesh and bone though. Hard to decide whether to use that bullet versus a cast fn. Anyone used a similar load on game?

Underwood 45 super the best I've seen
