5.54x39???

Good, affordable and plentiful...... The commercial stuff is readily available and cost just slightly under or around what 7.62X39 cost. No more surplus stuff at .15 cents per round. The rounds ballistics are about the same as .223 out to 300 yds then it drops must faster as it starts with a bit less velocity and has a lower ballistic coefficient. I have 5.45 AR and a AK 74. Both respectably accurate and reliable. FYI can use P mags in the AR up to about 25 rounds. Beyond that will misfeed.

Is all the inexpensive 5.45x39mm stuff still corrosive? I know it ain't an issue, and am well aware of proper cleaning techniques with corrosive ammo. Just wanted to know.

not supposed to be but there's the occasional rumor of a sadly-discovered corrosive primer here and there.

Good to know, thanks. Still worth it for the cheap cost of the ammo. The AK platform is easy to clean.

I haven't shot corrosive in a few years, but I had a couple 1,000 rounds of corrosive Brit milsurp .303 ammo years ago. It shot too good, and I got too good a deal on it, not to run it in my SMLE's. Never had an issue with rust/corrosion, but I knew how to take it into account when cleaning.

Same thing with a bunch of corrosive .30 ball I had for my M1 Garand and 1903A3.

What is everyones opinion on it? Good? bad? Affordable? Plentiful?

Let me know and thanks in advance!!
I shoot it on both AK and AR platform as well. I really like the round more than 5.56. It's slightly cheaper than 7.72x39, for the price difference I would shoot that primarily if I was just getting in to the round. The Russian steel core isn't cheap anymore and it is corrosive. Wolf is much cheaper and non corrosive. Since the steel core is gone the prices of the weapons seem to have came down. If I were just getting in to it today I would personally stick with 7.62x39 or 5.56 unless you want something different.
