I was going to say - the mechanism I proposed always has an accurate price for the item, with no hidden costs or bait-and-switch tactics associated.

No auctions allowed, period. At least that used to the "official position" of the mods.

I consulted the bible and the proper way to run a covert auction is to list the item at a ridiculously low price. Don't respond to any of the bids until your undisclosed sell it now price is achieved. After and only after the transaction has been completed you mark it gone. If the buyer backs out keep the auction going until your price is reached. It is perfectly acceptable to pm the 2nd and 3rd highest bidders and create a bidding war.
