I am purchasing the next part for my rifle build, which as the title would suggest is the Aero Solus action. My questions for those more experienced is,
1. Is there any reason I may be missing why this wouldn't work?
2. Or are there things I should know before beginning?
3. Or even better, is there a different action in the same price range that you think would be better suited for a newbie?

I have a raw unfinished 19'" 416SS barrel blank. I will be turning the profile (possibly fluting), chambering in either .308 or 6.5 Creedmoor, then threading the muzzle.

In the notes on the MidwayUSA website it says "Barrel: Savage Small Shank and Zermatt Origin Pattern Pre-Fit Barrels", but I am assuming since I will be turning the tenon that shouldn't matter as long as I can locate the print or at least the specs.

Thoughts? Any advice is always much appreciated.

Zermatt Origin if trying to stay budget. I don't think that there is much "wrong" with the solus action, but the Origin simply did everything "right."

Don't flute your barrel. It can warp the barrel as it was stress relieved in the form that you bought it. Simply put, the fluting is not worth the risk, especially after it has already been stress relieved from the factory. If you want to save weight, buy a lighter profile or a carbon wrapped barrel.

Just got a chance to come back to this. I have question if you don't mind. The fluting was to practice the process more than any real function, but I hadn't thought about the unintentional warping, so I appreciate the heads up.

My question though, is should I be worried about any warping when turning the base profile down to the 1-1.125" diameter? I'm going to do some research but wanted to ask your opinion. I'll be turning between centers using a follow rest to cut down on the deflection.

No. You are not messing with grain structure that runs the entire length of the barrel.
