Today's the day - The Daytona 500 and the beginning of the NASCAR season. Truly one of the greatest sporting events in the world. It's guaranteed during the National Anthem I'll get a tear in my eye and goose bumps about half way into the first lap. Man I love this sport.

Can I get a Yeah C'mon!

I love NASCAR too, except for Dannica.

I am already sick of hearing how awesome she is. She is 95% marketing and has the best support and equipment money can buy-but very little skill....

(They even made her one of the anchors for the Bud shootout. WTF?)

-Some people think NASCAR is rigged, and I am not one of them-yet. If Dannica starts doing well, I will be convinced that it is rigged. She looks good, but can't drive her way out of a paper sack.

-Yep-you got it. I hate Dannica! Just go to the NASCAR website, and every single banner ad that pops up has something to do with her. Good god!

-I think the thing that really erks me about her is that she can be a real cry-baby. Not as bad as Kyle Bush, but at least he is a very talented driver. She ain't.

i cant stand nascar these days. it used to be worth watching in the 80's and early 90's...........

I love the crashes, but I know what you are talking about. They try and make such a show of everything. They really do too much screwing with stuff. That-and Daryl Waltrip makes me crazy. I have to turn the volume down when he starts talking like a jughead "shot out of a cannon" this and "boogity" that. I am southern born and southern bred, but holy lord, the way that man talks makes me want to punch him in the head! Waltrip and Reba have the same effect on me... I just can't stand people who "put on" like that.

I enjoy watching the road races, and pretty much anything other than the Fox broadcast. I will DVR and just fwd thru the irritating Waltrip parts, but I don't actually watch much of it in real time.

Accelerate, decelerate, turn left. Rinse and repeat.

Yep-

That is why I love the road races. There are only two, but I will watch them from beginning to end.

There is a bit more strategy that it first appears, but these races with restrictor plates (daytona and talledega) have really started to get lame. Every year, NASCAR tries to change the rules to "level the field," and every year they screw it up.

Judging from the shootout (which was pretty colorful) there will be lots and lots of wrecks. I predict less than 15 undamaged cars finish today. NASCAR (in their infinite wisdom) has decreed that there was too much pushing going on last year, so they took a couple of inches off the rear spoilers. This means that the cars have very little downforce, and are much more likely to wreck if being pushed in the corners.

BTW- Did anyone see that finish for the shootout? Holy crap-that was amazing! (Beat stewart by .001 second.) Plue, his car had been wrecked three times that night.

Kyle Bush is a complete clown with his personality, but he does have some insane driving skills. I have to give him that!
