I know I'll get complete honesty (and a lot of jokes) here on the ODT, so here's my question: I'm 40 and my wife just turned 30. She wants to have a baby. She's the perfect age but do I really want to be pushing 60 when my kid is graduating high school? I want to have a kid too but would I be doing him/her a disservice by being an old parent?

Ok. Have at me.

No my friend. You will find with age comes patience. Which you will need a lot of by the time your child is in High School.

No one can tell you yes or no to your question. Everyone's situation, circumstances and reasons are different. Whatever yours and the wife's are, make sure they are thought thru, with careful consideration to your relationship with your wife, your happiness and the future of your children. If you decide not to, be at peace with that decision. If you decide to do it, then make sure you get a good life insurance policy :D. Seriously, I would invest in a good life insurance policy as well as make certain you have some financial security established for the future.there is no age limit to being a good father.

Go for it.... You will regret it if you don't. My older brother is now 61 and his only son is in his senior year of high school..... You might get tired a bit quicker, but possibly a bit wiser

my 2 cents

Living it right now. Some good points/some bad. There is no perfect time to have children. The only thing that matters is being as sure as you can that you have the right partner to raise a child with.

Yep.............I would've been a better father now than in my younger years. Patience is very important when dealing with young children and especially when they become older. A very important person in your life wants to have your baby dude. WTH

Nah, I don't think you're too old. One of my uncles didn't get married til his late 30's and was in his early 40's when he had his two daughters. Also had a friend in high school whose dad was over sixty. Used to go water skiing with him and his dad and his 60+ yr old dad could ski better than anyone I've ever met. Just stay active and try to maintain a healthy lifestyle.
