Any of you lived in or currently live in Virginia? I'm looking at the west side of Virginia.

I'm wanting to know cost of living or any other negatives about living in Virginia or even the positives of doing so.

Marginal blue state, gun laws are restrictive. Go a little farther west to West Virginia....

stay away from the area near Wash. DC. Shenandoah Valley is very nice country, don't know about politics there.

If you like cars, boats or RV's make sure to be aware of the personal property tax counties in VA levy on anything and everything fun to own every year. Ad valorum on steroids.

This is a sore spot for everyone I know that lives there.

I lived in Richmond/Chesterfield county when Hurricane Camille came through, witnessed an all black college marching band stop their awesome funky strutting during the tobacco festival parade to play Born Free... that was an incredible special moment. I traveled all over the state, and even spent time in Staunton. I moved to Indiana in '74 and revisited Virginia during the mid 80's ... I would avoid living there, West Virginia or Eastern Tennessee is where I would look today.
