ATLANTA - When you hear the name Atlanta Humane Society, you may think you know where a majority of the dogs and cats that are up for adoption come from. If you guess the Atlanta area, FOX 5 I-Team reporter Randy Travis says you'd be wrong.

He investigates why the non-profit chooses to largely ignore metro shelters
Saw this on noon news and makes me sick.Atl gets most of their animals from other counties and other states while asking for donations from ATL. residents.

Wow,thats crazy and something I would have never thought.
What was their reason behind getting animals from other counties and states?

Let's not let this skew your view of the Humane Society in general. There are still many that are run by principle. For example, my wife works at the Northeast Georgia Humane Society. They had to make the tough decision to split from the Hall County Animal Shelter because they had differing opinions over keeping animals vs. putting them down. Hall County puts them down. HSNEGA is a "no-kill" shelter. Now HSNEGA runs completely independently, but without county money. Let me say, that's not a decision I'd ever want to have to make.

"Humane Society" is a generic term that can be used by anyone. This story is about the "Atlanta Humane Society" and the new facility on Mansell Rd in Roswell. I actually know this story from the inside as I have a relationship with one of the whistle blowers. At the end of the day, it's not surprising. They bought that Ford dealership for something like 7 million dollars. It has never been about the animals for them. Remember folks, as a non-profit you can still take home over $400k in salary.
There are good people in the animal industry in the Atlanta area. It's a shame that this story will hurt the good ones. I hope they end the series with examples of good facilities so people don't get tainted.
