I use credit cards instead of debit for online purchases to have some layer of protection from scammers, etc. Interest rate isn't important because I'm spending money I already have and will pay the card before interest is charge.

Back in the day, I had good results using my credit card to encourage sellers to do the right thing. Once I got to participate in the phone call where the cc rep talked to the seller to get them to abide by agreements. Now seller don't answer phones and cc company call centers aren't even stateside.

What is the best credit card for good service and protection?

I've been using a Chase Sapphire for about (12) years now, I use it for business expenses and travel (I generally run between 15 and 20k per month in charges). I have had my card compromised more than 1/2 dozen times in this time frame (due to the massive number of locations I use it across the country I am sure), CHASE has made it right every single time, no discussion, no intense scrutinization, they just resolve the issue. I also have an AMEX and Discover, they end up collecting dust in the back of my wallet.

I carry 2 Amex. 1 business and 1 personal. They’ve been the best for me. I’ve lost them , left them places and who knows what else…have a replacement the next day. I also never carry a balance either.
That's the key, credit cards are a very nice convenience...assuming an individual can control their impulse buying. I pay mine off completely each month, stresses me out to think of carrying a balance with those type of interest rates.
