I think I did ok on this 1980 Ruger M77 in 7x57. It is ugly as sin now, but I think it could turn out to be a diamond in the rough. I can’t wait to strip all the paint off the stock but would like your recommendations on a product. As for the metal, it is a good candidate for cerakote although I had thought about sending it to Ruger for polish and reblue. Might send the scope to Leupold to freshen up, anyone have experience with them?
Barrel is a very good candidate for cerakoting. Several people on here do it well and for a reasonable price. If stock is plastic, might get a quote on having everything done and matching. Fatal_Bert
time for some good ideas?
Definitely a good project for Cerakote. I love a nice deep blued finish but once a gun has any rust or pitting getting it reblued isn't practical in my opinion. If it was me I'd refinish the wood and Cerakote the barrel and action either black or stainless.
Nah, I like too much already. Have not identified the brand of stock, maybe stripping all that paint off will reveal some clues. Sounds like fiberglass. Barrel is 18” and the only rust is light surface on the underside. The scope is plenty clear but the power ring does not feel quite right, like dry rotted rubber in there.
