First off let me preface this story by saying I live in a very nice area, in a nice neighborhood, with lots of nice cars. I've been a vicitim of theft and break ins while living in a luxury condo in midtown and thought moving to the nicest zip code in Atlanta would eliviate this....boy was I wrong.

I live in a town home community with tandem garage set ups (1 car in garage, 1 in drive way). This morning I went out to my car to let my Girlfriend out of the garage for work when I noticed that my car was unlocked. When I got inside my car all my things had been gone through and the arm rests and glove box was open. Fortunately the only thing that was stolen was my change. Only thing I had of value in there were 2 pairs of nice sunglasses, and those remained untouched. Even though it wasnt much, I still called the police. Upon the officers arrival he dusted for prints and initially deducted that it was probably a homeless person looking for unlocked cars to get into and steal cash. I assured him I NEVER leave my car unlocked and asked him if it was possible they might have used an RFID scanner. The officer naturally dismissed it and assured me it was a homeless person. While outside 6 other neighbors that live in a row came out and asked if my car had been broken into. I told them someone got into my car. They all had the same thing happen to them, all proclaiming they had locked their doors.

At this point I know there is no way we all left our doors accidently unlocked. The officer at this point wasnt sure if he still wanted to believe someone with scanners got in the cars...so he dusted each car and found no usable prints and no signs of forced entry.

I assured him this has been happening and I received a warning email about it from my Uncle was is a DA in Ohio and has been hearing about it. They are investigating further but I doubt anything will come of it.

The cars that were broken into were all luxury vehicles as well. Bmws, Lexus, Audi, my Infiniti, and a Yukon Denali.

What astonished me was that when the officer asked my other neighbors why they hadnt reported it initially, they all said "well I dont think anything was stolen." That blew my mind and upset me. Thankfully the officer lectured them on it and save me that speech. I didnt hang around to long enough to hear what each person had reported stolen, but the first two did say they had sunglasses untouched in their car and had gps, ipods, change, and clothes stolen.

Anyways to everyone else. Do not leave valuables out in plain site in your car. And when at malls and other public places use your standard key to lock your car instead of the remote. You never know who is watching...they could be a couple of cars away and obtain your remote code. Once you've walked away they can unlock the car and get what the want undetected. Please be careful, and dont leave your firearms in the glove box.

I had my window knocked out for a 12 dollar pair of wrenches and 5 dollar phone charger this year. I reported it to the police and they said they couldn't find any usable prints. Then I was told my vehicle could be target more because of out of state tags due being in GA for school and I should re-evaluate the area I am living in due to recent shootings occurring around the area. I hope that every Grinch that hurts people this holiday season receives justice but most likely they will not.

Sorry to hear about your break again.

Also If they are using scanners lock your doors manually from now on. Unless they had the scanner hooked up to a laptop they might not have saved your individual frequency. Locking your doors from the Lock button removes your frequency from scan-able frequencies. You might have to sacrifice your alarm but they wont be able to open the doors without the code from your key fob.

We have had to call the police on a few people at my job for not returning their lock out kits. They can be used to get into vehicles and make zero noise and show no signs of forced entry. Its a good possibility that they had something similar. Companies are not suppose to sell them without a tax id either from a road side assistance company, repo company or something like that.... but I have seen them on ebay a few times. Even if you have an alarm, using the lockout kit you can bypass the alarm and get the door open, I wont say how to do this on a public forum but over the time ive spent on my job ive gotten into lexus, bmws, benz , denalis, RVs, campers... you name it. Its best these days not to leave anything valuable in your car. Goes to show you that even super neighborhoods have scum bags walking around in them.

Sorry to hear about your stuff getting stolen :( I hope they catch the scum that did it.

this is why im a big fan of aftermarket alarms, more sensors and alot harder to scan for codes because the nicer ones have a cde hopping program that changes to freq everytime.

I had a window get pryed open at a jobsite over the summer, and around $3,000 worth of tools got ripped off. The window that got popped open had a huge greasy full hand print right in the middle of the window. The police NEVER bothered to do fingerprints . By the way, the business was 3 doors down from the Lilburn police dept.

Dang, no safe plavce anymore.
I Had my rear paswenger window smashed out at the movies to get a GPS on the dash, along with my daughters bible, and the carry bag it was in. Cops didnt even bother dusting, but recovered the bible two days later when a resident found it on a road a couple miles away. Alarm went off, but didnt help obviously.
