Hello -

I have a 2019 mfg. 38 super 70 series Iver Johnson 1911 that is exceptionally reliable yet has _very_ tight lockup. Must have gotten a good one, the action is also quite smooth, perhaps due to the fact that the exterior of the barrel is also chrome plated - however I would prefer it in OD green - tempted to just detail strip the thing, OD spraycan the frame and slide [exterior] use a detail paint brush on the small pieces [leaving the interior of this pistol entirely unscathed] and just call it a day - I could get out of it later just by using paint thinner? plausible? - Not too excited about selling off a 1911 I got for $650 that actually works out of the box with no tuning, price point also tempts me to spray can it.

I know i could get it professionally cerakoted [maybe?] but would rather spend that $ on ammo or training.

My gut tells me its a bad idea, but I think this could be pretty cool, if I can get away with it - anyone tried this before?

I'd rattle can it. If you don't like it carb cleaner will take the paint back off. I like to use header paint and then bake it once it's dry. The high spots will wear through quick, but I actually kinda like the look.
