Short story here, and some help requested. I've never really been a bow person, but ordered a crossbow for some random hunting during deer bow season while it's rifle season on bear, and mainly to take care of some yotes in the neighborhood.

What would be your choice for bolts and broadheads?

If it matters, got a Wicked Ridge RDX400 coming in from Euro optic. From what I can see, not the greatest, but not the worst either.

410 fps is smoking out of a bow. Get really nice bolts and well made because they'll probably only last one shot otherwise.

Check the bolt specs weight, diameter and length, some of these new crossbows use a smaller diameter bolt, weight is critical for crossbows to keep from damaging the arms so weight specified from the manufacturer or a little heavier not lighter, never dry fire it it can come apart, never leave it cocked over a couple of hours and be sure to buy a decocking bolt it's a heavy and has a large head it is reusable, make sure lubricate the rails and strings, make sure all the bow screws are tight, it's hard to beat Muzzy braudheads don't buy into the folding blade hype and finally buy a good crossbow rated target.

They gave velocity specs on 370 and 400 grain bolts. Was planning on sticking with/around 370 grain carbon.

Any suggestions on which brands/lines? Or just buy upper tier priced?
Been a long time since I was a bow hunter. I'd do some googling for best arrows. I wish I were more help.

Back when I bow hunted 270 fps was pushing the limits of bows.

You probably will have to buy the Wicked Ridge bolts just to be safe. They are a little pricey, but not as bad as my Ravin R10X bolts. I'm using G5 MegaMeat broadheads. Make sure you get crossbow broadheads in whatever brand you decide on.

A word of advice from someone who just did this. When you sight in your x-bow make sure you have a good target. I shot my brother's bow target like normal sideways, and my bolt with field point exited the rear and was never seen again. Shooting the target longways, bolts were going over halfway through the target, and I couldn't see where they were hitting. I will have a piece of poster board or paper next time to finish sighting it in. 400FPS is like shooting the target with a 22mag pistol in terms of energy.
