Has anyone had any deer or hog hunting experience with one of these CVA Scout V2 pistols? They’ve piqued my interest and I’ve been looking at the .243 Win version but I’m not sure about those small bullets coming out of a 14” barrel. Because of this I was also thinking about the .350 Legend and .44 Mag options as well. Just wanted to know if any of you guys had shot any critters with one of these and if it performed well. Thanks!

I usually carry a short gun to the woods to hunt deer. I have a CVA in 300 blackout but havent shot it yet. That said,
I killed a 250 to 300 pound hog with a 243 Savage Striker a number of years ago, has a 15 inch barrel. A 100 grain bullet
between the eyes and he hit the ground. Shot deer with the same gun but added a muzzle brake to it. Have taken deer with
a 7-08 with 15 inch barrels, my fav is a Contender in 35 Remington. Be sure and wear hearing protection, I dont hear well in left ear from being young and dumb. Havent looked much at the 350 legend, the 44 will work out to about 150 yards if you do your part. My view of the CVA, built well, good trigger, think the safety is on the cheesy side, looks like it might fall off but mine currently works. Is a fairly heavy gun, might need a good rest. Hope that helps.

I've done plenty of encore pistol hunting for deer in 7-08 & 44mag. Used a 120g bullet in 7-08 and its very effective. As mentioned hearing protection is a necessity especially with factory ammo. A 243 will do fine, you'll just loose velocity and I keep shots to 200 or less shooting a pistol. It's all about placement.

Heck once i shot a little 80-90 pound pig with a glock 19. It was only from 10 yards and right behind the ear with a self defense round. I was confident in placement and it went down right there. I don't recommend shots like that...i was young and dumb.

I enjoy the aspect of carrying light and hunting in closer but with an encore pistol its not that hard to still reach out past 100-150 yards if needed, just practice how you'll shoot in the woods...often with tree support or off a monopod or ???, just don't thing shooting off bags on a bench compares to field shooting and you'll be good.

What would you say the best barrel length for 44mag encore to run suppressor on would be ?
16.1" if used as a rifle :-)

I think the pistol calibers usually came in 12" barrels & the rifle calibers came in 15" barrels. I'm pretty sure it would be hard to keep a 44mag subsonic in a longer barrel like 12" but that sure would be nice. Guess it depends if you are just trying to get down to hearing safe while keeping it supersonic or if subsonic and as quiet as possible is the goal. With that in mind here is an older article I read about some sub-sonic 44mag https://www.iqmunitions.com/2019/09/13/44-mag-subsonic

Full disclosure, I've never run a suppressor on a 44mag...but I've thought about it.

I have the 350 legend and it’s a tack driver to 100 yds. Haven’t shot it much further than that because I just don’t need anymore range where I hunt.
