Wife left her wallet in the theatre. Someone got it and went on an attempted $10k spending spree. Only charge that went through was almost $800 at walmart. Would local leo look into this (store cameras) at all or is that a waste of my time? Cards have been canceled and I wont owe anything. Just curious of the above. Thanks

Calling the local police and filing a report should have been the second thing to do and should already be done.
I wouldnt have thought they would be interested in small claims like this. Its never been recommended to me before to do it. Guess I should have known. Anyways, theyre on it now… thanks

That’s certainly very fortunate.
I am not one to advocate online bank bill paying or even bank apps, but my latest bankcard I allowed the young girl to download the bank app to my smart phone and setup my account info with password.
I use the app a lot to check balances and see if a credit or payment has applied.very handy app.

My point is, that there is a place on the bank app to freeze the card immediately.
Some people are now using that so much, that they are actually turning on their card to make a purchase and then turning it off immediately in between purchases.

Wondering if you had that app, and if you froze your card? Or,.. if you were not able to. Maybe it’s something you should consider because being able to freeze the card immediately would have made it invalid for any purchases.
I left my cardbehind at a purchase I made last year, and I was able to immediately freeze the card on my phone,
Pay cash the next day for everything I purchased at work. And stopped into the store the next evening to get my card back and then activated it again immediately on my phone.

Anyway, so glad it worked out for you and your wife.
And if your question is about law-enforcement? And their interest in simple property crimes?

I think I won’t comment on that.

This is exactly why I use CC’s over debit. Theyre covered. Im not out a dime. Just my time on the phone. Im not interested in turning on/off my card between purchases. Thats a pain and frankly unnecessary but I suppose it would help in the situation of physical theft like mine. Ive had numerous fraudulent charges over the years but it was always due to stolen numbers out of state. Not physical theft. So I may have to change up my game a little after this.

LEOs don`t want to be bothered with it. After our third fraud was committed, I, and wife, worked our own case after LE refused to. I had the background to do it. I gathered the info, told them where a search warrant would work," pulled a punch , and followed through court. Two folks went to prison. After the trial, the assistant DA shook my hand and said they were glad to get the case. He commented that "We finally got one of these" .My advice is to go see your DA for advice.

Well this is why I asked. I felt kinda stupid asking because theft was committed. So ya it should ve reported. But Ive also heard of how cops treat petty theft cases. But Ive also never dealt directly with my jurisdiction in this matter so it will be interesting to see what transpires. Both the county and city are involved. I supplied time stamps and locations of all the charges. So unless the thief was masked up and driving an untagged vehicle, it should be pretty easy to track them down. We shall see..
