My daughters friend's father has a barrel break, pump gun and he has shot 76 squirrels in his yard this year. I said in jest that if shtf, he's not going to have any easy meat. I feel better

No but those tree rats wont be eating into the side of the house or cutting the ground wire to his house and burning it down either. Either of those situations are SHTF if you ask me
The treerats don't stand a chance around my abode. I use a RWS pellet rifle and drop 10-15 week around by bird feeders. Have been doing this for several years. There are times when the pickins are slim and then boom times like now. One pellet through the lungs and they drop like a rock.
I can't keep them out of my garden. Wish I had a nickel for everyone I'd dropped.
A friends fruit trees were covered in small plums, apples, pears, etc. but within about three weeks, the squirrels had almost striped them bear. They would take one small nibble and throw the fruit to the ground.
