Here is a photo of a 1943 Ames Army Entrenching Tool that I picked up a few weeks ago. I took in on a camping trip with me a week ago and it performed flawlessly around the camp site. I dug a couple holes for homemade tiki torches, played in the fire for several days, hacked up pine lighter for kindling, etc. It's been around for 69 years and I expect I'll pass it down to a kid someday (Unless somebody wants to buy/trade it of course).
My buddy picked up a 1966 Ames E-Tool a couple months ago. It has the serrated edge and the pick attachment on it. The Early WWII ones like my 1943 do not have those options.
Cold Steel has an awesome non-folding shovel. It is a little on the heavey side if you are backbacking but just camping it is almost indestructable and can double as an axe!
