Serial # dates it between Jan 1917 and Jan 1918.

Not being picky, but I don't think Colt put the words "The Woodsman" on them until about 1927. You also have a patent date of Sept. 3, 1918 on the barrel, so it was definitely made after that. I have a 1920 "Pre" Woodsman, So named because it was before they put the name on them. I am learning about these old Colts as we speak, so don't take anything I say as the gospel. Yours is a VERY desirable gun, and should bring good money from any sensible Colt collector.

Colt shared many of their serials over the years....at least they kept the guns seperate...Your is a 1927 Woodsman Automatic. A very desirable piece of history, and I believe very much worth your original asking price....You just have to find the right people(forum)...
