Colt 1911A1 US made in 1942. Has the desirable "WB" inspection mark of Colonel Waldemar S. Broberg. This is a hard to find gun, especially with the frame markings and the good overall condition. The frame has “G” on the top under the slide. The frame has the correct “P” proof mark by the magazine release. The slide has the matching serial number correctly stamped under the firing pin retainer. You can also see the matching serial number on the underside of the firing pin retainer.

  • the correct checkered slide stop
  • correct checkered thumb safety (colt use checkered thumb safety only)
  • correct wide checkered hammer
  • the correct long spur grip safety
  • correct checkered milled trigger
  • the correct checkered mainspring housing
  • correct early front sight, round half-moon shape without serrations
  • correct early rear sight with a u-shaped notch
  • 1942 "w.b. in a square" inspection mark (w.b. stands for colonel Waldemar Broberg)
  • matching "p" marks near the mag release button on the frame and the top slide in front of rear sigh
  • correct checkered colt wood grips with big reinforce rings and no back ribs

This is about the condition of the Colts we shot in competition, against all of Nato while I was stationed in Germany in the early 90's
.We placed 2nd overall proving A)that these old Colts were still very viable.
B)Its the men behind the machine.
Most of Nato was shooting newly issued firearms. We lost to the Germans who were shooting a combination of Lugers and P-38's both fine and capable platforms, however much newer than ours. Some and I cant remeber who were shooting the then somewhat new excellent CZ 85.Most forces we beat badly and only lost to the Germans by a little.I believe we could have mopped up if given the Beretta's we were promised as those little thumbnail sights were hard to master on our ancient 1911's.
However this ole warhorse deserves alot of respect and will forever be a favorite.God bless and rest John Moses Browning.

Most excellent piece of finely crafted history here. One of whom I have a little history with myself.Long live the 1911 and its 45 ACP chambering.
