You want rare? Here is rare! Up for grabs to one lucky collector is No.6 of 10, 1999 manufactured, 24 Karat Gold Plated, 1895SS (45-70), JM stamped, Bartow County Georgia Commemorative Marlin lever action.
Investment Arms teamed up with JM Marlin in the early 2000s to create commemorative gold plated 1895s for each state. They made 10 of them per state, each we believe to be of a different county. So in actuality, it is 1 of 1 Bartow County guns. One of out ODT members in the lever action thread, just showed one of these guns marked 5 of 10 (this one is 6 of 10) but 5 of 10 was for Newton County GA. The amount of detail and effort to engrave each one differently and tell a story is astounding. Each one is entirely different based on the history of the county. Bartow County has some of the richest history's in GA. Because of that, the engraving on the Bartow gun is jaw dropping gorgeous. Leaps and bounds nicer than any other one I've seen. Shortly after Investment Arms started this series, they went bankrupt. Their intention was to do 10 for every state, but I don't know how far they got. I've only seen one gun from this series outside of GA. I would imagine Investment Arms did a handful of states before going out of business. The level of detail each one required, was probably why they went bankrupt. This one was 6 of 10 made for GA, which we believe is 1 of 1 for Bartow County. Once this one sells, that's it. There are no more of the Bartow ones.
The base gun is a JM stamped Stainless Steel Marlin 1895gs in 45-70. We dated the serial number to 1999. After manufacture, it was sent to Investment Arms somewhere between 1999-2002 for the commemorative work. Being 24K gold coated over stainless, I can't imagine there is a more corrosion resistant gun than this. It would probably outlive all of us 10X. It is fully functioning, but I have not worked the lever action as I don't want any hairline scratches on the lever or jeweled bolt. I think if you sprayed everything down with lube you could rack it without worry, but I don't own it, so I'm not going to mess with it.
Stunning is an understatement. I'm a casual collector of Marlins and I am considering buying this one for myself, as I know I will likely never see one FS again. It is addicting to look at and I keep finding myself opening the case to gawk at it.
This gun, like the other ones I'm listing, comes from an estate from someone who collected mostly Marlins. I was told this particular Marlin was one of his favorites. He liked it enough to spend $3000 in 2004-05 money. It is being listed at a bargain, identical to what he paid when considering inflation.
If you want to kill every lever action porn thread on ODT, this would be the gun to do it with... Below are 120 pictures of this beauty, but even all those pictures don't do it any justice.
This gun is one of many NIB collectable firearms I will be listing for a friend. His late father over the years acquired many collectable firearms, concentrating on Marlins. 90% of the guns in the estate are NIB. 7 years after his passing, the heir of the estate has decided to sell most of the collection. I have offered to assist the friend in listing the guns for sale, so this is one of many you can expect me to list in the coming days and weeks. That said, every gun I list will be in my possession. No trades. Preferably local sale, but will ship at the buyers expense.
Thanks, Snail
