Item Name: Looking for a Hunting mentor/ shooting buddy or even advice

Location: Roswell / Fulton County

Item is for: Trade Only

Trade Value or Items Looking For: My time and hard work

Willing to Ship: Yes

Bill of Sale Required?: No

Item Description: I am reasonably young( 24) and very new to the GA area( My nearest family is in Texas) . Over the years I have tried to pick up what knowledge I could from my brother when he would take me to his company lease, but I find myself lacking the skills and knowledge base to be able to hunt on my own. I have shot several deer and turkey in my life(all clean 1 shot kills), but never from anything other than a deer stand, so I have 0 public land knowledge or experience. I am looking for someone who would be willing to take me under their wing so to speak and teach me how to be an outdoors man and I am willing to work for your knowledge. If you have a lease or some land I am willing to put time in to your property if you will be my mentor. Any help that is provided will be greatly appreciated and I look forward to meeting some of you!

Can you ellaborate "Outdoorsman"?

Are you wanting to learn how to track? How to process meat? Trap? What are you looking to learn exactly?

What experience do you have in the woods outside of turkey and deer hunting?

I don't have any experience in the woods because I simply have never had the opportunity, nor have I had anyone to teach me. Things I would like to learn are as follows:
1) Tracking/ understanding animal behavior
2) Methods of hunting besides sitting in a tree stand( Stalk, turkey blinds, ect)
3) What to look for when evaluating public land or private hunting leases ( what makes a good hunting spot)
4) How to manage animal population( deer, turkey, hogs) on your land
5) Hunting small game / predators
6) How to work with game calls ( no experience)

#1 I would advise getting the SAS Tracking Guide...I have it and its a great resource to study up on prior to going out in the field. Personally, if you teach yourself something you will always have it...versus someone showing you the ropes.
#2 Spot & Stalk is a pretty simple concept...you can practice by walking 10-15 steps and stopping to listen for animals, trying "Roll" your weight onto your feet to limit the leaves and twigs sound.
#3 Animals need Food, Water, Shelter.....when looking at a potential spot always scout with the maps available and aerial photos before going out there to scout on foot prior to hunting. This way you can maximize your scouting time. Also, game will tend to use the same paths to food and water sources so finding a confluence of game trails is a good spot to hunt over typically.
#4 Depends on a lot of variables
#5 Small game and predators require either long range capabilities (Yotes and Prarie Dogs out west) or you have to bring the predators to you. A simple way ive found to hunt yotes is to take a drive out to the country and see if you can find anyone with chicken houses, a lot of times they have "Cull" birds that they plan to kill anyway you can cut up some chickens and toss them out in a field, park your truck at the top of a hill and invest in a red spot light and a CD Boombox, you can get a CD of predator calls that plays continously. (Just make sure to check with Rules and Regs first don't want to get in trouble with the law or the land owners."
#6 What type of Calls? I learned how to turkey call via youtube then would keep a call in my truck to practice on while sitting in traffic.....you may get some strange looks but a lot cheaper than paying to have guides take you out. Ducks...same thing...but you would be better off learning how to call geese since they are much more prevalent in GA

Hope this helps man....
