Is it like from a writers chair or something? I had one and the leather is pretty thin, IMO.....you may have to settle with something made out of a holster with a lining (or outer layer) of the chair leather. It depends on where you'd want the softer leather. The one thing I do know is that you need to make sure where that leather comes into contact with gun metal and how it was tanned, whether veg tanned or acid tanned....I have some leather from an old chair my dad owned (sentimental) and was looking for someone who could make one. Any info would be helpful.

Sounds good then. Most any leather holster maker you get to make it will know. You mainly run into acid tanning on something like lattigo leather. I bought a holster once that was acid tanned leather and stored a gun in it longer than I should have and it corroded the back strap. I didn’t learn about all that until when I started making holsters for myself and and got into buying large leather cuts. Its thick leather its a handmade rocker from costa rica not sure how they tan them. Hadnt thought of that.
The seat part may be big enough, its a ruger 22 4inch barrelUnless it's for a very small revolver, I don't think you have a single piece there that is large enough to make a traditional cowboy holster unless you use a separate piece to make the belt loop. Holster pattern for this type holster is normally a long piece with a flap that must be folded over to form the holster. Look at the pattern below and picture the size of your revolver to get an idea of the size of the leather piece you will need.
