HAS ANYONE MOUNTED A RED DOT ON A STOEGER STR9 FULL SIZE

A buddy of mine wants to put a red dot on a Stoeger str9 full size.. he nor I know what type scope to try on this pistol.. would it need a mounting plate or just a certain rmr type scope? Any help would be much appreciated.. thanks
