Morning all!

I recently picked up a Norinco MAK90 Sporter, from what info I have, it was not imported but built on a AK US Parts kit from First Son Enterprises in 1998. From what I can tell, it is a 1994 receiver. I am trying to gather as much information about it as I can. I believe the previous owner had it cerakoted (i have no clue why). I know they are typically a beautiful blued finish. This rifle is built on a straight stamped receiver best i can tell its 1.5mm. I was trying to find the value of this particular AK as well as any more information I can possibly get. Any help and information is appreciated.

Thank you

That brings back memories. I bought one of these when I lived in IL somewhat on impulse shortly after the Clinton Assault Weapons Ban started for roughly $200 at the time. It was modified by Norinco in China to remove the evil bayonet lug (tooling marks apparent) and the replacement of the standard stock with their awful thumbhole version. It sat for years in storage, until I swapped out the stock, foregrips, and internal parts with US varieties to remain in compliance with ATF requirements. I ended up selling it several years ago for $900, I believe. Granted this is not the version you have, but perhaps that gives you some idea.

So was yours considered "Pre-Ban or Post-Ban" I was reading through a forum yesterday that all MAK90 are "post-ban" but i could not find any information to confirm that.

That's a post ban Mak 90
It was built is one of the Chinese arms factory and exported by Norinco. Definitely not built here "on a US parts kit". It's 100% Chinese.
First Son Enterprises was the US importer.
Thank you!

Thats the kind of info I was wondering about, I was under the impression that the importer had to make their mark on the receiver, there are no marks other than the ones in the pictures shown.

It should have the importer mark somewhere on the receiver. Some were on the side of the receiver, some were on the bottom forward of the mag well. Some are stamped/engraved well, some very light. Look it over good, it may be there and you just missed it. Or maybe the reason for the cerakote was somebody did some sanding to remove the importer stamp. Or maybe First Son never stamped it and it somehow made it out of the door without a stamp. Who knows?

I wish I knew! I didnt think about the cerakote possibly covering it up, Im going to go over it again tonight and see if it may be there.

I do not recall the importer, but it came in a cardboard box with styrofoam inserts along with a sling, a rather cheap cleaning accessory kit, and a really cheap, small, plastic oil/CLP bottle that would be sure to leak, had I ever used it. The bayonet lug had been ground off, and you could see the tooling marks left from that process. The furniture was decent but not great, and the fit was rather good.

I found a few pics. I think I bought it as a Christmas present to myself in Nov 1994 from a dealer who had gotten a shipment of 20 or so. My buddy and I both bought one. They sold out quite quickly. The pic with the case is post-modifications. I do not have one of the original in the shipping box.

Man! I wish mine was still blued. I’m am trying to find someone that can reblue. Would your opinion be that it would hurt the value or help it?
