FERAL HOG FIREARMS
Any deer, bear, turkey or small game firearms. There is no restriction on magazine capacity for rifles. Additional weapons restrictions apply on WMAs (see page 37) and Federal lands (see pages 60–61).

Feral hogs are not a game species and are considered incidental take during any hunt on a WMA (except during Special Hog Hunts). This means that you must use the legal weapons for the specific game species for which the WMA is open. So, if a WMA is open for small game then you may only use legal weapons for small game if you intend to hunt for feral hogs. Muzzleloaders and archery equipment are legal during small game and turkey seasons. However, during Special Hog Hunts only, you may use any legal firearm.

TURKEY FIREARMS
Shotqguns with No. 2 or smaller shot and any muzzleloading firearm.

From what I read here, in order to hunt hogs during the turkey season I can (must in my case since I don't have primitive weapons) use a shotgun.
My question is: is the choice of round restricted to 'No. 2 or smaller shot' or can I use, for example, a slug? In short, is the rule related to the firearm only or to the ammunition as well?

(similar wording applies to federal lands)

can you shoot a turkey with a slug?

I think you have to hunt under the complete regulation on WMA's. Ammo is included in that regulation, so I would say it has to be considered as well.

Thank you. Is that an opinion/interpretation of the above? I still have some doubts about that and when I will have time I will try to find the original text related to this rule.

Few weeks ago I attended the final review for the safety course and I asked the officer who presided the exam the same question.
Actually, after presenting the question in general terms, I specifically asked: "if, during the Turkey Season, while hunting for turkeys with a shotgun I see a hog, can I load the shotgun with a buckshot and shoot the hog?". The officer initially did not know the answer so he told me that he had to ask and that he would have answered the question after the final test. After the test he answered and the answer to my surprise was positive: "Yes, you can do that. If while you are hunting for turkeys you see a hog, you can load your shotgun with a buckshot and shoot the hog."

I am not reporting this to say this is the right interpretation of the regulation and in fact I don't think you should rely on this information (for example, as far as I know buckshots usually are not allowed on WMS's and I should have asked "can I use a slug?", instead of buckshot; maybe a little detail or the officer did not pay attention to that specific detail, but that is enough to make me wander about the validity of the answer). But a least I can see that this subject is not 100% clear. At least to me.
