This is a Kevin Costner project. A 4 part, epic western about westward expansion around the time of the Civil War. Just caught the first installment on Max last night.
Really mixed feelings about it. It's 3 hours long. The cinematography (southern Utah) is beautiful. The characters are fairly interesting. But the style of storytelling and the editing is hard on the brain. MANY storylines, some short-lived, others spanning the entire movie, with choppy editing. There are gaps in the story, where characters you've met are in a different situation than what you saw 15 minutes ago, with no explanation, and the viewer is left to assume a lot about what took place in between. Other characters simply disappear from the story.
Both violent and a bit sappy, as Kevin Costner's movies tend to be.
If you like Westerns, and the way the story is told is not too off-putting, you'll probably enjoy it.
