Hot Take: Chicken Wings kind of suck

Can someone tell me why they are so popular? I could go the rest of my life and never eat them and not miss them. A guy I work with is borderline religious about "cold beer and hot wings." It's like a religious experience for him. I think it's another version of "ribs" for me. Everybody I know loves them, I can't be bothered. So, convince me...what's the deal with "wings?"

Flavor!! And my wife wants me to pull the skin off, what is wrong with that woman??!! I'm not the biggest wing fan, but I'll eat them along with another piece.

To me, good wings are great. Crispy and packed with flavor are hard to beat. Pair it with some really good fries and iced tea. Perfect meal for occasional eating. Unfortunately, most wings are more like most pizza and barbecue. Not worth the time or $$$. I make ours at home. Teriyaki, lemon pepper and hot for me.

It's all about the sauce, and they "used" to be cheap food. If the sauce is just hot to be hot, and hot's not your thing you won't like them. I prefer flavor over just being hot. "Hot" where you can still taste the other flavors makes for excellent wings.
