How do I fix this leaky faucet?

The faucet in my downstairs bathroom is dripping and I can't figure out how to fix it. I'm assuming there is probably some rubber o-ring or gasket that needs to be changed. However I can't see any way to take apart the valve itself. I can access both the front and the rear of it but it looks like a sealed unit. Where do I go from here?

It appears thats you have a bad cartridge. Which could be swapped out but please be careful as you have CPVC which looks like its not properly secured. CPVC is notorious for being brittle as it ages

I have no idea what any of that is. Can you walk me through it?

Also it doesn't surprise me that it's not properly secured. This is a rental house and whoever renovated it before I moved in was not exactly first string talent...

Try to find a brand name on the faucet. Then search You Tube for "replace cartridge in (name) bathtub faucet". It will most likely be a Pfister, Delta, or Moen cartridge and faucet.

Ohh, and make sure you get cpvc glue, and not just pvc. I spent that night in a hotel…..

No problem I am a Journeyman plumber . So its more than likely a delta single handle cartridge like this . It can taken out after removing the metal ring that helps secure it into the valve . In my professional experience Sometimes they are a little harder to remove if the valve lacks silicone grease . Personally id recommend professional help with it due to the CPVC pipe . But if you are working on it yourself please make sure the water is shut off to the home first , drain the water in the home before any repairs are done .

I really appreciate the info. So just to clarify, the unit itself can't be taken apart? And to change it I have to cut the PVC pipes?

Yes the unit can be taken apart . I was just saying to be careful taking it apart because too much force on unsecured CPVC pipes when removing the cartridge can cause the pipes to fail .

Oh ok. I think this is the kind I have. So it looks like I can just slide out these two leads with the o-rings out of the PVC pipes? Any tips for doing it without breaking the pipes? Also where is that retaining ring?
