New York City, and maybe some other city in New Jersey with a high Jewish population, both had "kosher cops"

These real police officers, armed and with full powers of arrest, would inspect restaurants and food carts for compliance with Jewish dietary laws! (not state or city health codes, but the freaking religious commandments of the Torah).
