Item Description: I just got a flintlock blunderbuss for Christmas the manual from Traditions calls for 3fff or 4ffff real black powder for best results. Asked around at a couple of shops near me in Athens and can't get any real information. Getting conflicting advice from the gunstore "experts". Any idea where I can buy some in person and maybe get some tips/advice from people that are knowledgeable?

Sometimes in stock at Bass Pro Shops too. What's the diameter of the chamber end of your blunderbuss?

If it's around 60+ calibers I'd go with FFg and not FFFg. Reserve the FFFFg for your flashpan if it's a flintlock.

I order my regular powder from graf and sons or powder valley and my cannon powder from Back Creek Gun Shop up in Winchester, VA. Always wait for a sale with no hazmat fees and/or free shipping. I don’t know alot about your area but Deer Creek in Kennesaw has powder and flints in stock but they’re pricey.

We enjoy shooting my Traditions blunderbuss…feel free to drop me a message if you have questions or need help. I shoot mine with 50-60 grains of FFFG and a .530 lead ball. Sometimes I use lead shot and paper wadding instead of a patched ball. I prime the pan with the same FFFG that I load in the barrel. It uses a 5/8” flint

I have been shooting flintlock rifles since 1979 -- the 4F is used in the pan as priming powder. NEVER use 4F as your main charge. Personally, I wouldn't use anything greater than 2F for the main charge. You'll also need flints -- "Track of the Wolf" sells these. Deer Creek in Marietta sells blackpowder....
