Item Description:
This gun was intended to be a fun little project, but I've kinda lost interest in it. I'm trimming down the herd and I just have no need for full-caliber rifles. This is an Izhevsk 91/30 dated 1942 with a 16.25" barrel (I just measured it from closed bolt face to muzzle). There bolt knob is from a Tula and there may be some of other non-matching pieces, but the gun, the bolt body, and the magazine match serials. But let's be real- this thing is already bubba'd so you don't care
All cosmoline has been removed.
Speaking of Bubba, this one is a little better quality than most. To cut the barrel down, I used a hacksaw. I then used a file and marker to file the end of the new muzzle square with the OD of the barrel. To create the crown, I used the carriage bolt/lapping compound method and it turned out great, IMO. I also got the tool marks out as best I could with some Scotch-brite. There are still visible tool marks but nothing deep. The picture makes the tool marks look deeper than they really are, thanks to the odd lighting. The gun seems to shoot as well as it did before, with the caveat that the decreased sight radius makes aiming a lot harder
. Also you will notice that the muzzle has not been reblued- I have a cold bluing pen but I thought the bare steel looked awesome so I left it. I put oil on it and it's been sitting for 9 months with no rust. I can blue it if you want me to.
The sight is a custom Brass Stacker. http://brassstacker.com/mosin-nagant/Mosin-Nagant-9130-Front-Sight-Adapter-MN-FSAR.html . It is on there but I have had trouble keeping it from creeping along the barrel. So the gun needs to be sighted in a little and the sight probably needs to be tacked in place or pressed down onto the barrel- the set screw alone isn't holding it perfectly. The good news is- it's a 16" Mosin. How precise does the sight really need to be?
The gun also has sling swivels installed. The gun doesn't come with a sling. I had plans to make a paracord sling for it, but never got around to it.
It was always washed out with water and CLP after firing corrosive, so there's no damage from that.
The receiver has a little forward play in the stock which I've found is common in these rifles. You could bed it if you really cared, but I wouldn't bother since it's not a precision rifle.
There's a little work left to be done on this one, or you can just blast away as is. I can add ammo if you need it for 20 cents per round. Also comes with ammo pouch and the usual Mosin stuff (if I can dig it up!).
