Item Description: Nice 1971 Marlin 336, blueing is still in real good shape, still has factory finish on the walnut wood with just a few handling marks, nothing bad at all. This rifle does not have the crossbolt safety. $350 firm, or trade.

The crossbolt is a lawyer safety and is not needed, its just a extra safety that was added to the 336 in 1983 and the rifle done had the half-cock safety.
I dont own a Marlin with the crossbolt safety and never will but I know a few people that have missed deer by forgetting to push the crossbolt safety off. When the hammer hits the crossbolt it sounds like you broke a 2X4.....deer, bear, hog GONE!
