Why is this one $2,800?
Hi Russell,
I'm selling this for a friend who is having some severe health issues. He knows the details of the gun, but at this time can't communicate them to me. His wife gave me the information in the post. I have been trying to come up to speed and have been reading and researching. The prices seem to be spread fairly wide. I did find a listing for the same rifle which had a similar description and the serial number was only about thirty numbers away from this one. It was listed for $2800.00 by a company that sells guns. Based on your question, I would have to assume that you know quite a bit more about the values than I do. I am open for an education and an offer.
Thanks,
John P

Thanks John,

I’m trying to learn more about the Garands. I know the smallest things can affect the price big time.

If you could get your hands on the rifle and get some pictures of the various parts (and the markings), it’ll be of great use for folks looking to buy.

for garands understand the government will still ship one to your door for a very reasonable price so would always use their site for a pricing guideline

http://thecmp.org/cmp_sales/rifle_sales/m1-garand/

BUTTTT that doesnt mean that this rifle doesnt have any special providence or rarity that would make it worth quiet a bit more so would deff try to get some more information from the original owner. I would also advise getting a bunch more pictures if your unsure and post them on here as there are plenty of folks on here who know these things backwards and forwards and can give you a very fair estimate on its value

I will try to post better photos tomorrow.
