Item Description: Rock Island Arsenal – Model 1903 – 1919 receiver manufacture
The U.S. M1903 and M1903A3 “Springfield” rifles are the greatest of all U.S. military issue bolt action rifles.
Receiver SN 328537 dates as a 1919 manufacture. This serial number falls in the improved heat treatment process which began at SN 285507 and also the introduction of nickel steel which started at SN 319921.
It has WWII era Smith Carona 2-44 [A3] replacement barrel and is in good solid condition.
The bolt is the later “swept-back” (or slightly rearward curved) design vs. the earlier “straight bent” which was noted to have heat treatment issues
In some cases, the 1903/1903A3’s were arsenal rebuilds to target grade match rifles as is with this rifle.
Metal finish is very good. Rock Island 1903’s utilized a bluing process. Later non-RIA replacement barrels were parkerized as in this case
This has a C – stock which you seldom come across & full hand guard which are in excellent condition.
Lyman K41 rear target peep sight with micrometer target knobs for elevation & windage
Lyman front target globe sight with interchangeable apertures
The C-stock, rear & front target sights alone will range approximately $375+
can meet in Lawrenceville area for FTF inspection
reasonable offers considered
