Red tail hawks are the ones that mainly target Grey squirrels main reason they have strong built legs & talons. Hawks like red shoulders have smaller legs talons if they caught a squirrel possibility squirrel gets bite on his legs or talons crippled hawk. I found that out from friend that’s falconery

That's what you call a Cooper's Hawk (of the immature variety). The streaks in the coloring and the yellow around the black pupil of the eyes are what to look for to ID the younger ones. They will wear out a dove population! I have a few every year around the house. Meanest kind of hawk I know of. Leaves piles of dove feathers everywhere and looks like the dove blew up when it got hit.
