For sale is a nearly pristine .38spcl Smith & Wesson Model 10 (-5), made in 1963. I got this a while back from a prolific ODT veteran, who had it as a safe-queen for years.
But, it turned out to be even nicer than a
I expected, ( it was exactly what I was after at the time, but now I can't bring myself to stick it in a holster, or shoot it, ultimately reducing this near-mint classic into just another "used" pistol, and I don't really do "safe queens", so I'm kinda stuck in the middle here.)
Anyway, as usual, I'm needing the cash for another toy, so I'm putting this back up on the chopping block.
Here's the lowdown : The pistol is in virtually mint condition, with ZERO flame cutting under the top strap, zero forcing cone erosion, and an almost imperceptible trace of any turn line.
I suspect it may have been test fired at the factory (do they do that?), and possibly never fired since.
The bluing is gorgeous, as is the case coloring. I'd conservatively estimate the finish, and the pistol overall, at least 97% of having just rolled off the assembly line.
The lock-up is the tightest I've EVER felt on any S&W.
The original grips are serial numbered to the pistol.
From the info I have, the C-series 10-5's were made from 1963 to 1965 ( but I've also read as early as '62) with this one falling early in the range ( C 673***), so it looks to be right at 1963 (see photo/chart below).
Price is $550, firm. Any less and I'd rather just hang on to it. And i believe $550 is still about $300 less than a brand-new modern version, which aren't nearly as well made, so this is actually a deal, especially for a steadily appreciating asset like vintage Smith revolvers.
I'm happy to answer any other questions I can, or provide other photos. Probably not interested in trades, but if you have something really tempting, it can't hurt to take a swing !
Gotta meet close to me around Columbus/Harris county (really......seriously.....I CAN'T meet in, or halfway to, Atlanta, Albany, Augusta, Macon, etc.).
Buyer must be legal to own firearms, and be a legal Georgia resident, with at least a valid Ga. drivers license.
I'm fine with bill-of-sale....or not, and I'm happy to show my Ga. carry permit.
Thanks for looking.........................
(and congratulations on making it to the end !!;) )
