Hi. Looking to pick up one of the above shotguns in 12 or 20 gauge with 3” chambers. 150-250 price range depending on which model and condition. I’m located more in north central ga. Thanks.

Thanks for that info. Do you know of any literature that covers this series of shotguns from Winchester ? I’ve heard many never carried a serial number thus hard to get a date of manufacture

There's a few articles and threads posted sporadically about the net on Winchester singles, but no definitive source as far as I know. The 37s were made in USA from 1936/7-1963. None had serial numbers. All 2 3/4 chambers except.410. The ones made before 1949 are known as "red letter" guns becase they have the Winchester logo on the bottom of the receiver filled with red paint. They also have a different forestock. These guns demand a premium over the later models but are not technically better. I love the 37s but wish Winchester had put a safety on them and made them truly hammerless instead of "semi hammerless" which is what they called them.

Then, in the late 60s-early 70s, Winchester rebranded Canadian made Cooey shotguns as the Winchester model 370. These had serial numbers and looked a lot like the 37s except the hammer was now in front of the release lever like almost all other break action shotguns .

Sometime in the mid 70-s until the early 80s, they switched to the 37-A, also made by Cooey, which was more cheaply and crudely
constructed but still a decent shotgun.

Price is generally higher for 37 RL, 37 plain, 370, then 37-A. The smaller the bore the higher the price, except the 28 gauges which are fairly rare and can bring a few thousand dollars.
